When you think of Apple, you cannot help but think of Steve Jobs. When you think of Disney, you think of Walt himself. With many of today’s events, do you know who the faces are behind them? We are not only The Great Candy Run, but a real charity with an amazing volunteer management team behind it — with a passion for creating a fun, family-centered event and for making a difference in the battle against fetal syndromes.
First is my dear friend Tammy Smith. Tammy went through the same terrible fetal syndrome that afflicted my daughters, Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome. Sadly she lost her son Nicholas, but Zachary survived. Tammy has been here since early on — a big reason why our foundation is what it is today, and the main driver behind the post-event activities for The Great Candy Run. She can always be spotted on event day by her bright smile and pink garb.
If you ever wanted to meet Martha Stewart’s mini-me, you don’t have to go farther than Talitha McGuinness. Talitha also battled TTTS with her daughters. She handles our fundraising efforts and the marketing for the events and our Foundation. She takes my ideas — many in worse shape than a sketch on a napkin — and brings them to life.
